Provus is radio pick; radio and TV schedule unveiled

The Brewers’ flagship radio station hired Cory Provus of WGN in Chicago to fill the vacancy in Milwaukee’s radio booth on the same day the Brewers unveiled their Spring Training and regular-season broadcast schedules.

Provus, a 2000 graduate of Syracuse University, appeared on AM 620-WTMJ in Milwaukee on Monday morning and will call his first game alongside Bob Uecker on Feb. 25, when the Brewers host the A’s at Maryvale Baseball Park. He handled Cubs pre- and post-game programming for WGN and often spelled play-by-play man Pat Hughes in the fifth inning of game broadcasts.

He replaces Jim Powell, who left in January for a higher-profile job with the Atlanta Braves after 13 seasons in the booth with Uecker.

The Feb. 25 game is one of 36 Brewers Spring Training games and all will be broadcast either on the Brewers Radio Network, MLB.com, FSN Wisconsin or Milwaukee’s WMLW TV. A total of three games will be broadcast on television, 19 on radio and 16 via MLB.com webcast.

During the regular season, Uecker and Provus will call all 162 games on the radio as usual, and a total of 157 games will be televised, with Brian Anderson (who has an excellent MLBlog, by the way) and Bill Schroeder back in the booth. That includes 136 games on FSN Wisconsin, 15 games aired locally in Milwaukee on WMLW and four national broadcasts.

On his blog, Anderson wrote that Telly Hughes will replace departed sideline reporter Trenni Kusnierek on TV broadcasts.

The national games, some with updated start times, include:

April 12 game vs. Cubs at 7:05 p.m. CT on ESPN
May 24 at Twins at 7:05 p.m. CT on ESPN
May 26 vs. Cardinals at 7:05 p.m. CT on ESPN
June 13 vs. White Sox at 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX
June 15 at Indians at 6:05 p.m. CT on ESPN
June 20 at Tigers at 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX
Sept. 5 vs. Giants at 3:05 p.m. CT on FOX

All of those times are subject to change, of course. The team’s complete 2009 broadcast schedule will be online soon.

Arizona citizens are beihnd the law by 70%. Arizona Democrats support the law by 53%. Why do liberals in other parts of the country think they have the right to tell Arizona what to do?Liberals are comparing this to Nazi Germany, the segregated South, and other unfavorable imagery . They only show their ignorance. The law is nearly verbatim to the federal law, with the difference being there is MORE forceful language prohibiting racial profiling than the federal law. If you are violating the law, you will be asked for ID. If you at the ice cream parlor you will not be harrassed, as a certain serial liar that resides at Pennsylvania Avenue suggests. The Arizona governor plainly said any law officer that is racially profiling will be dealt with harshly. Setting up checkpoints is done in this state. Asking for ID is done at the grocery store, in your bass boat, in a deer stand, at the driver’s license bureau, etc. But asking for ID in Arizona, oh the horror! Here’s some real, live situations to consider. Phoenix has more kidnappings than all other U.S. cities .combined. Juarez, Mexico is a stone’s throw from El Paso, Texas. It is the murder capital of the world with 800 so far this year. Nearly half a million illegal immigrants live openly in Arizona. They carry no health insurance. They use hospitals as their doctor’s office (but we needed that health care bill???). Two hospitals in Arizona have closed their doors because they were so swamped with non-paying illegals that they went broke. Other hospitals are teetering on the edge. The state is overwhelmed by the massive costs added through the need for more buildings, more teachers, more books, more supplies like paper, etc. because of the children of non-tax paying illegals. Unemployment is spiralling out of control. The minorities are especially hard hit. African-Americans under the age of 25 in Arizona are virtually jobless. The reason? Farmers, ranchers, etc. go to street corners and pick up ever how many people they will need each day for that day’s work and pay them pennies on the dollar compared to what they would have to pay Americans (but raising the minimum wage is inportant to liberals?) and no taxes are being taken out so the state goes further in the hole.If we go to Mexico we have to produce a passport and a visa. We shouldn’t expect the same? What sane country doesn’t defend its borders? Has anyone noticed suicide bombers? Millions of illegals are here and we are more worried about their rights than we are about protecting our own citizens. This is absurd. Finally, it is funny reading a liberal pretending that intruding on folks’ private lives is a factor in illegal immigration. Everybody knows that this is all about liberals recruiting a voting block to ensure their success in future elections. Intruding on private lives? Please child! Liberals live to intrude on our lives.Mandatory to buy health insuranceMust wear a motorcycle helmetMust wear a seat beltMust get a permit to build a tiny shed on your own propertyMust give up your property if the gov wants itMust be incorporated into the city limitsMust be licensed to driveMust register for the draftMust be schooledMust wear clothesMust register gunsMust get a permit to fishMust not smoke in all types of placesNo trans fatNo toys in happy meals (Libs in CA city ordinance)Must use a certain amount of water in your toiletMust have a certain water pressure in your showerMust get gov mandated miles per gallonMust get vaccinatedMust get gov approval to choose school (no vouchers)Must not play music above certain decibel levelMust be certain age to drinkMust be certain age to driveProperty taxEstate taxIncome taxAlternative minimum taxFuel taxSales taxOwn a business? Prepare for oppressive gov intrusion! This list could get so long that it bleeds over into RC’s blog but you get the point.Liberals have no problem with intruding in law-abiding Americans’ lives. But they have a gigantic problem with violating the civil rights of terrorists at Gitmo, or simply asking a law-breaking illegal immigrant to show ID. Would you leave your door unlocked and have no problem with coming home to find someone you don’t know sitting at your table, eating your food, and taking any money they find? Well, since the federal government refuses to protect them, Arizona has chosen to protect themselves. Good for them!
