First place on June 1 bodes well

My good buddy Doug Miller did some research and found that since 1995, better than 66 percent of the teams leading their division on June 1 went on to the postseason. The Brewers were one of the exceptions in 2007, when they got off to their now-infamous 24-10 start and were 36-21 on June 1, only to fade in the second half.

It’s still to early to follow the standings every day, if you ask me, but a team would obviously rather be in first place than out of it. There’s your deep thought for the day.

Waiting to see if the Brewers make a roster move today to help the bullpen. Based on a couple of conversations last night, I would be very surprised if 30-year-old Mike Burns doesn’t get the call-up from Nashville.
