Outfielder Jim Edmonds is back in action for the Brewers tonight for the first time since last Wednesday, when he tweaked his back in the 13th inning of an eventual loss to the Pirates. Edmonds was hurt sliding into second base on a successful steal and said he further inflamed the injury when he slid home — unsuccessfully — trying to score the winning run.
Edmonds, first baseman Prince Fielder and catcher George Kottaras give the Brewers three left-handed hitters against Dodgers starter Chad Billingsley. Lefties are hitting .383 against him this season and slugging .660. Right-handed batters are only hitting .231 and slugging .365 against the 2009 All-Star.
Here’s the lineup:
Rickie Weeks 2B
Carlos Gomez CF
Ryan Braun LF
Prince Fielder 1B
Casey McGehee 3B
Jim Edmonds RF
Alcides Escobar SS
George Kottaras C
Doug Davis LHP
