Brewers take RHP James Nelson in 2nd round

After taking a high school pitcher in the first round, the Brewers got the college arm many expected them to take, as they drafted RHP James Nelson with the 64th overall pick in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft.
Nelson, a junior at the University of Alabama, can run his fastball up as high as 94 mph, with a nice slider — a tilted, hard, late-breaking pitch — to go with it.
A Florida native, Nelson has an average changeup to go along with his slider and fastball with the ability to command all three of them. According to his scouting report, Nelson is “big and physical, a bigger version of Jeff Suppan.”
Nelson’s biggest weakness is a lack of life on his fastball and the lack of use of his third pitch. But if he could develop the changeup to be a significant third option, he could be a good starting option for the Brewers in the not so distant future.
