Kottaras in, Nieves out

Wil Nieves’ weak bat has cost him his job as the Brewers’ backup catcher. The team on Wednesday sent Nieves outright to Triple-A Nashville and selected George Kottaras’ contract.

Kottaras had been hot at the plate for Nashville since the Brewers demoted him on April 21. He was hitting .343 there with four home runs and 21 RBIs, and presumably will take over Nieves’ role as Randy Wolf’s catcher. Kottaras and Wolf worked together extensively last season.

Nieves batted only .140 (7-for-50) and had more at-bats than any other Major Leaguer with no RBIs.

More on the move later from Wrigley Field.

That took way too long, kind of surprised they didn’t demote Nieves when they called up Rivera last month.

Yeah, it was about time!

Kotarras is a better player and he is hot as hell!

I did feel for George when he was first sent down. He always had a steady bat and we were giving up to much with Nieves in the side…it was like having a pitcher bat 8th & 9th in the order.
