Cards’ Molina suspended five games

Since the incident happened in Milwaukee, I thought Brewers fans may be interested in this news release from Major League Baseball:

St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina has been suspended for five games and fined an undisclosed amount for his inappropriate actions, which included making contact with Umpire Rob Drake multiple times and spraying him with spittle twice while arguing, in the top of the 10th inning of his Club’s game on Tuesday night against the Milwaukee Brewers at Miller Park.  Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards and On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Molina’s suspension is scheduled to begin tonight, when the Cardinals are to play the Florida Marlins in Miami.  If Molina elects to file an appeal, then the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.

Seems about right, an appeal should save him one game. Would like to see him miss at least one game against the Brewers next week.

Weaver gets 10 games for throwing over someones head, when he was antagonized by some idiot with a stare down after a HR. Molina went after an official of the game and made contact physically and with bodily fluid. He should get at least a 10 gamer. And Motte should get a suspension for throwing at and hitting Braun.

you never throw at someones head. What molina did, didn’t have the potential to end a persons career

Weaver was suspended 6 games, not 10.

Yep.

I agree.I work there and saw the whole thing.LaRussa needs to get suspended too

Not enough of a suspension. Should have thrown the book at him, bumping multiple times and flying inadvetant spittle should warrant a tougher penalty.

He will be missing one of the crew games, if he appeals he could be out the whole series.

Hope he appeals and it starts when the Brewers get in town. Although I lost a alot of respect for Molina he is still a much better option than Laird.

Weaver can also only play every 5 days, so it is a 2 game suspension essentially for weaver

Weaver never got near the tiger batters head. He threw it over his head to the back stop. I agree there should never be an instance that someone throws at a players head. Fill me in, do players get paid during these suspensions? Players who are suspended shoud have to donate any game checks to charity for there lapse of good judgement.

why doesn’t it make sense that the suspension rule should include the next series against the team that was being played when the infraction ocurred, if there is another series, in addition to at least the game immediately following the infraction. It was a nasty series–I wonder if LaRousa got a bad brat before the first game.

Weaver’s original suspension was for 10 games he must have appealed it and got a reduced penalty, which is probably what will happen to Molina. No matter what LaDoucha eats he is an idiot. He thinks he is the know all be all of the MLB and no one should challenge him or his players. First he is complaining about the ribbon board lighting at Miller park being different when the cards are at bat then he is bitching about the delivery of a pitcher. I found it very amusing when that pitcher continued to use the same delivery after LaDoucha complained about it and he struck out his batter when he went back to his usual delivery.

only thing worse than LaRussa are Cards fans what a bunch of bums!!!
