Brewers to sign RHP Escobar
The Brewers are poised to announce a Minor League deal for former 18-game winner Kelvim Escobar that includes an invitation to big league Spring Training camp, where the 36-year-old will compete for a spot in Milwaukee’s bullpen.
Escobar, 36, has pitched only once in the Majors since 2007 because of shoulder issues but has been throwing well in Venezuela and indicated a desire to try a comeback. Brewers scouts there, including director of Latin American scouting Manny Batista, liked what they saw and reported Escobar reaching the mid 90s with his fastball.
He has familiarity with both Brewers assistant GM Gord Ash from their days in Toronto and manager Ron Roenicke from their days in Anaheim. More to come.
